Hi Dr. Athirah, I hope you’re doing well! I’m in my late 30s and I’ve had my dental veneers for quite some time now, but I’ve started to notice some changes in their appearance. I’m wondering when I should consider replacing my old dental veneers? I want to make sure they not only look good but also keep my teeth healthy. I’ve heard that some people replace theirs every few years, but I’m not sure what the signs are that it’s time for an upgrade. Thanks for your help!

Hi there! Thanks for your question. It’s great that you’re paying attention to the condition of your veneers. One of the first things to look out for is any wear and tear. Check for changes in color, chips, cracks, or rough edges. If your veneers have become discolored or no longer match the shade of your natural teeth, it could be a sign that it’s time to think about replacing them.

Another point to consider is if you have any underlying issues with your teeth. Veneers can sometimes hide problems with your teeth underneath. If you’re experiencing any pain, sensitivity, or gum issues, it could mean that there’s more going on than just the veneer wear. It might signal that you need to get the health of your natural teeth checked as well.

When it comes to how long veneers last, they typically serve you well for 5 to 15 years, depending on your oral care habits and lifestyle. If your veneers are over ten years old, it’s probably a good idea to see a dentist, even if they look okay from the outside. This way, you can make sure everything is still in good shape.

Visiting your dentist for a professional evaluation is really important. They can give your veneers and teeth the once-over and advise you on whether a replacement, a repair, or maybe just a bit of touch-up is needed. They’ll have the expertise to guide you based on what’s best for your particular situation.

And lastly, don’t wait too long to get them checked out. Tackling any concerns early on can prevent bigger problems down the line. Your dentist will help you get back to smiling confidently and ensure your teeth stay healthy. So go ahead and book that appointment soon!
